Good Composition Skills & Design

The kids are really focused on this project!  Look at their awesome designs!!!

While listening to music (Enya), students add designs based on the mood of the music.  

Later, they "invent" & name a new color by blending at least 2 colors in each section of the background.

Clay Doughnuts!

(Air Dry Clay)

Since my current district does not have kilns at the elementary level, we used air dry clay for these little doughnuts.  Toppings are real sprinkles, however.  

"Donut" they look delicious?!!!

Bird on a Branch

In this project, we made tints for the bkgrd., & used 

"good composition"  & overlapping to place the bird on a branch.

Tints & Shades

In this project, we experimented with the idea of what a tint is vs a shade.

This took about 2-3 days to complete.  Day 1: printing circles / adding shade

Day 2/3: making a variety of tints

This lesson lead into the next lesson to show light/shadow using tints & shades.

Light & Shadow

Not only did we show light & shadow using tints & shades, but we also transformed a flat shape to make it appear as a 3D form.

Students already had knowledge of tints / shades from the week/2wks prior.  

We did this project step-by-step, starting with the circle.  Then adding true color to the sphere, then adding a tint to show light & completing the wall using 2 different tints.  

---Note:  Throughout the process, I would walk to each student & squeeze the appropriate amount of black or white for each painting on their plates....this helped to organize the process & limit wasted paint.---

Finally, we added a shade to the ground, being careful make a darker shade (& not just black) for hte shadow.  I would say that this project had a tremendous success rate.  

They were so excited about each painting.  Love it.

2nd Grade 

ZEBRAS!!!

Since our school's theme is Safari (Learning Safari...Wild About Learning...), we drew / painted a zebra.  This first one was so cool, I just had to have him call the work finished prior to the paint.  

Look at how awesome it is!  He truly has his own unique style.
